CHRISTIAN BETANTOS, CPA, CRA®, CICA®, CrFA®, CHRATM
Chief Financial Officer (CFO) | Certified Public Accountant (CPA)| Tax, Regulatory Compliance, and Strategic Financial Management
CHRISTIAN BETANTOS is a finance executive and licensed Certified Public Accountant in the Philippines, with nearly a decade of demonstrated expertise in leading financial operations, defending high-value tax assessments, and ensuring enterprise-level regulatory compliance. In addition to his CPA license, he holds multiple international certifications—Certified Risk Analyst (CRA®), Certified Internal Control Auditor (CICA®), Certified Forensic Accountant (CrFA®), and Certified Human Resource Associate (CHRA)TM—which collectively reflect his mastery in financial risk management, internal controls, and forensic-level financial scrutiny.
He presently serves as Chief Financial Officer of a private Philippine corporation, where he directs all core financial functions, including taxation, budgeting, financial reporting, audit management, and compliance with regulatory bodies such as the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and various Local Government Units (LGUs).
His prior professional appointments include:
- Finance Director and Head of Finance of one of the largest event management and production companies in the Philippines, where he also sat on the Management Committee, contributing to policy-making and corporate governance. He served as principal officer for all financial affairs, vested with authority over fiscal governance, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning. As a sitting member of the Management Committee, exercised fiduciary duties in corporate policy formulation, risk oversight, and internal control implementation, ensuring alignment with statutory mandates and enterprise objectives.
- Finance Manager in a pharmaceutical manufacturing corporation with multi-billion peso assets and operations, where he was primarily responsible for executing financial strategy, ensuring compliance with tax and statutory regulations, and overseeing asset stewardship within a highly regulated industry;
- Finance Manager in a national distributorship corporation, where he had fiduciary oversight of inventory-based financial systems, managed cash flow and cost controls, and ensured lawful compliance in all financial reporting, while advising on fiscal matters affecting supply chain and distribution operations nationwide; and,
- Head of Finance of an automobile importer, assembler, and distributor, where he led cross-functional efforts in tax compliance, treasury management, and audit preparedness.
In parallel with his corporate leadership, Christian also accepts and handles serious, large-scale BIR audit cases, having represented corporate and individual taxpayers in tax assessments amounting to hundreds of millions of pesos. His areas of practice include:
- BIR Letters of Authority (LOA) audits – All taxes
- BIR LOA – VAT assessments
- Oplan Kandado enforcement actions
- Other RATE (Run After Tax Evaders) investigations
He is best known for his unwavering advocacy that all communications with the BIR during the course of any audit or investigation must be reduced to writing, thereby preserving a complete and verifiable record of proceedings. This principled insistence on documentary preservation is grounded in his commitment to due process, transparency, and the fair treatment of taxpayers under the law.
Christian is a staunch defender of taxpayer rights, and is deeply versed in the procedural safeguards under the Tax Code, BIR revenue regulations, and judicial precedents. His interventions consistently aim to ensure that audit processes are conducted strictly in accordance with law, and that taxpayers are afforded all rights to which they are entitled—including the right to due process, proper notice, and reasonable opportunity to be heard.
It is important to note that Christian is not a lawyer, nor does he claim to be one. However, he is currently pursuing his law degree, with the goal of deepening his knowledge of the legal dimensions of taxation, corporate law, and regulatory policy. His legal education enhances his already substantial capabilities in defending complex tax assessments and navigating the technicalities of administrative procedure before regulatory bodies. All representations and consultations conducted by him are made in his capacity as a finance and tax professional, not as legal counsel.
Key Areas of Experience:
- Tax Controversy and Audit Defense: Preparation and submission of protest letters, position papers, and audit responses; strategic resolution of tax assessments at the district, regional, and national levels of the BIR.
- Regulatory and Statutory Compliance: Comprehensive adherence to rules issued by the BIR, SEC, and other government authorities affecting corporate finance.
- Internal Controls and Risk Management: Implementation of risk-based systems and audit frameworks to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of financial operations.
- Strategic Financial Management: Development of forecasting models, cost control measures, and capital structures aligned with long-term business objectives.
- Executive Leadership and Team Development: Mentorship and oversight of finance teams, coupled with collaborative engagement with senior executives, legal departments, and external auditors.
CHRISTIAN BETANTOS is a consummate professional whose work stands at the intersection of finance, regulatory compliance, and public accountability. His practice is informed by a legalistic discipline, analytical precision, and ethical stewardship—making him a formidable ally for any organization confronting the complexities of Philippine taxation, financial regulation, and compliance.
